These settings allow you to control power consumption on the Zaurus.
One special feature is that you can set the hard drive LED to act as an email notifier. Another is that although the device is suspended by default when it is closed (recommended in general in order to preserve the battery), you can override this.
Sound features are set in two different places:
To control what sound gets played on given events such as startup or receiving an email, go to Sound Settings in the Settings tab of the Home page.
However, to control alarms, key clicks, screen taps and other effects, tap on the sound icon in the status bar instead.
Tab Setting allows you to define the tabs on the Home page. You can create new tabs, edit existing ones and decide which applications will appear in which tab. To create a new tab see “Creating an Office tab on the Home page”.
The Network applet allows you to create different setups for connecting to the Internet, including wireless LAN connections and dialup over infrared.

Software installation packages (.ipk) can be installed and removed from your Zaurus. These packages might be installed from a memory card or from a network server – we provide such a feed for easy software download over the Internet. See “Installing new programs”
A password can be set to provide a minimal level of protection against casual access to your Zaurus.

It is possible to change the applications that are started by the round application buttons at the front of the keyboard. To change the application launched by a specific button select the list next to the required icon and press or tap on the control to show the list of applications and actions. Scroll through the list and press to select.
Select this option to specify your time zone, set the time and date and determine how they are displayed.
The Backup and Restore applet enables you to save your system settings and any data stored in the built-in applications such as the Calendar and Address Book, and to restore a previously saved backup.
Backup does not save any of your files stored under Internal Disk. These need to be backed up separately.. See “Backing up your data”.
System Info shows useful information on:
Storage used and available
Memory usage
Version of Linux and Qtopia installed
CF or SD cards installed or device connected to the USB port.
There are three options for your PC Link:
Storage mode (Zaurus acts as a USB mass storage device)
Standard USB PC link
USB PC link over TCP/IP – provides a TCP/IP network connection.
Use the Migration utility to transfer pictures, appointments and contacts from another device such as a mobile phone or Palm to the Zaurus.
Send the data from the other device via infrared. On the Zaurus tap the button and then the button. The received data will be stored in the correct location or application according to its type.
You can use this dialog to make the Zaurus check regularly for incoming data over infrared, thus avoiding the need to run the Migration application to check for it yourself – to do this, simply set Beam receive mode to Automatic.

You are advised not to keep Automatic mode set unnecessarily as this will increase battery consumption. |
