Installing new programs

Programs can be installed and removed through the settings applet Add/Remove Software. This application is actually a frontend to the command-line utility ipkg.

Installing packages locally

The Add/Remove Software application checks the Install_Files folder for files with an extension .ipk, so if you want to install some software you need to copy the .ipk file into this folder.

If you do have some ipk files in this folder when you run the application and tap on Install Packages you will see a list of packages: ones with a red icon have not been installed and those with a blue icon have. Select the package you wish to install and then tap on the Install button. You can choose to install in internal memory or on a memory card. A prompt should appear when the application has been successfully installed.

Installing from a network server

It is possible to install applications from a network location, Fig Labs provides such a server, we've configured the installer to point to this server. To add another network location just tap on the Install packages via networks button and then tap on the leaver icon on the bottom right, you should see the Fig Labs server and you can add others by tapping on the New button and entering a name and URL for the server.

You can update the list of packages available by tapping on the Upgrade button

To install a package tap twice on the package and you will be presented with some information about the package, tap on the Install button to indicate that you wish it to be installed, this doesn't actually perform the install. You can repeat this process for other packages you wish to install.

Once complete press OK and you will be asked where you want it to be installed. Select the location and and press the OK button. The installation process might take some time depending on the size of the file. Once complete press escape to quit from the Add/Remove software application and the Zaurus system information will be updated.

Removing a program

Packages can be removed by tapping on the Uninstall packages button to show a list of all the installed software. Select a package and tap on the uninstall button to remove a package.
