It is important to purchase a Wi-Fi card that is known to work with the Zaurus. We've listed a few below that we know to work and which we use ourselves.
To set up a network connection you need to go to the Settings tab of the Home page and select the Network applet. In the Services tab of the Network dialog make sure Wireless LAN Card is selected from the drop-down list at the righthand side. Tap on the button and type in a name that makes sense for this connection setup.
If you're trying to connect to an open wireless LAN, you may find that these steps are all that is required and that you can now plug your card in and tap on the globe icon in the status bar to connect. Alternatively, you may still need to specify a couple more items.
To specify the name of the network you wish to connect to, go to the Config tab and remove the tick from the box by Non-Spec ESS-ID: "ANY". You will then be able to enter a network name in the ESS-ID field. For more information see Wi-Fi - Service Set Identifier
If your network has security then you should set this in the WEP tab.
For most this should be enough. Of course, there are many other settings which can be specified, such as IP address allocation, DNS servers and proxies.
(The Proxy tab, should you need it, is at the far right of the tabs, so tap the at the righthand side of the list of tabs until it is displayed.)
With a wireless connection set up you can put your Wi-Fi CompactFlash card into the slot and a globe icon with a red cross should appear in the status bar. Tap on this and it will start to connect.
