Downloading a video from the Web

If you've got a fast connection to the Internet then why not consider downloading some videos? A good example of such a site is www.pocketmovies.net which has lots of free videos to download. Download the MPEG-1 files to your Movie_Files folder.

The built-in video player supports MPEG-1 and Microsoft formats WMV/ASF. If your video is not already in one of these formats there are a number of tools available on Windows for converting to these formats.

For converting to MPEG-1, one such tool you can use is Tmpgenc, you can find out more and download a copy here. You can also find some very useful information and templates that make the conversion process a lot easier here.

To convert to WMV/ASF you can use Microsoft's Windows Media Encoder (v9) which is a free download. For a more detailed description of what you need to do see this site.

We have managed to convert some videos on the Mac to MPEG-1 and run these on the Zaurus. We used ffmpegx.

We used the following settings

Video settings
  • Video codec - MPEG1 (ffmpeg)

  • Video bitrate - 500 kbit/s

  • Frame rate - 24

Audio settings
  • Audio codec - MP2

  • Audio bitrate - 64 kbit/s

  • Mode - CBR
