Backing up your data

The simplest way to back up your data is to either a CompactFlash (CF) or Secure Digital (SD) card. This process results in a re-boot of the Zaurus, so make sure that you don't have any unsaved data in open applications.

  • Go to the Settings tab of the Home page and select Backup/Restore.

  • In the dialog which appears, make sure the Backup option is selected.

  • Make sure you have inserted a CF or SD card with enough space to store the backup.

  • Use the Tab key or stylus to select the media onto which to save your backup.

    [Tip]Tip

With the media field selected you can press Space bar to show the different locations on to which you can store your backup.

  • Finally select Start and wait until the backup is completed.

This process creates a single backup file on the storage card you specified, the filename indicating the date when the backup was made. This file is stored in the folder Backup_Files.

This process doesn't back up any of your documents, music files or videos, in fact whilst it does back up settings and data contained in applications such as the Calendar, it does not back up any of the data visible from the Files tab on the Home page. In order to back these up you can copy files or folders using Fn-C and once you've navigated to the place you want them copied press Fn-V to paste them there.
