Sharp SL-C3100, SL-C3000 and SL-C1000
Apart from their distinctive colours &mdash grey and black for the C3100, white for the C3000, black for the C1000 &mdash the basic design of the three devices is the same, with the major exception of the C3100/C3000's 4Gb hard drive.

screen

The sharpness of the touch sensitive screen is truely impressive and at 640x480 pixels it makes a practical browsing device, as demonstrated by the screen shot of the browser below.

keyboard

The Zaurus' built-in keyboard features keys with a pronounced physical feedback and around 10mm clearance between letter keys for people with larger hands and/or a touch type ambition. All in all, the Zaurus has a definite advantage over the pen-input Palm and Pocket PC clones.

CE Mark

We have imported the Zaurus from Japan and enabled it to pass CE Mark conformance. (Not all suppliers of the Zaurus have ensured that their device is CE Mark approved.)

Memory

The C1000 has 128MB of Flash (persistent storage) of which 63MB is usable. You can, of course, supplement this with an SD or CF card.

The C3000 boasts a 4GB hard drive, of which a generous 2.9GB is free space with FigLab's configuration. And you can always delete some applications to increase this to around 3.6GB. It has 16MB of Flash (persistent storage) and 64MB of SDRAM.

Battery
The Lithium ion battery fits neatly into the underside of the Zaurus, secured by a simple locking device on the battery cover. The Zaurus will not switch on if the battery cover is not locked.

Our experience shows that we tend to get about 7 hours' use from a fully charged battery, but it does obviously depend on what you're doing.

Expansion

The Zaurus is equipped with both a CompactFlash (CF) slot (supporting type I and type II cards) and a Secure Digital (SD) slot. Please note that the SD slot does not support SDIO.

The SD slot is at the front of the Zaurus and the CF slot on the right hand side. We find the best arrangement is to use the CF slot for things like WiFi and Bluetooth support, with the SD slot for memory storage.

USB

USB client support enables you to connect your Zaurus to a PC, Mac or Linux computer — useful for copying files on and off the device or even using your PC as a gateway to the Internet.

The Zaurus can also act as a USB host: this means that equipment ranging from USB mass storage devices to digital cameras can be connected to the Zaurus. (Please note that you need to order a USB host cable from FigLabs to enable this.)

Headset

The Zaurus supports a standard headset jack: excellent for listening to music with the Zaurus either open or closed.
